Question for long time Home Built campers. Does HBC ever fill up so you would get put in the North 40 or somewhere. Trying to decide when to arrive. The neighbor that is flying with me want's to stay the entire week. I was thinking of arriving Saturday or Sunday morning, weather permitting. Now thinking maybe Monday morning if that doesn't put me at risk of not gettiing into HBC.

I have not seen that happen yet. The folks running things seem to prioritize the interesting airplanes. I have seen homebuilders elect to park in other areas.

This will be my first time camping in HBC. How do you plan for meals? I know there is coffee in the pavilion every morning. Is there a source of Hot Water for food prep in HBC? Do you bring your own camp stove to boil water?

I was a greeter in HBC for 2023 and 2024. The way I see it, Home Builders are EAA's crown glory and they know it. Its their goal to have us there this year and come again next year. I believe it is fair to say there is always a place for a Homebuilder to camp at EAA. I'd love to hear of a Homebuilder has ever been turned away from HBC.

Hi Brooks, In the homebuilt pavilion there a number of gas grills for your use. I think there is also a microwave.

            Bearhawk Walk 2025

            Tuesday July 22, 2025.
            2:00 pm
            Meet at the Bearhawk Booth.

Help me scope out where all the Bearhawk are parked ahead of time. We'll meet at the booth, talk about the aircraft Virgil and McKenzie have this year in the booth, then go out and visit some aircraft in Homebuilt camping and Parking. The only thing planned at this point is the time and the meeting place. What ever Bearhawks we scope out ahead of time are game to go visit.

We get great support from builders who have flown in. I'd say the builder there ready to present there aircraft to us in 75-90% of Bearhawk's we visited have in the past. Outside of the booth, I'd expect to see some Four's, Patrols. It would be great to see an LSA, a Five, and a Companion. Expect a lot of walking, lots of sun, and at least a couple of hours. We start with a group of maybe 40, and some peel off we go, so dont feel as though you need to stay to the end.

Brooks we bring a few backpacking meals. That takes care of about half of our meals. $10-15 each.

It looks like the weather will be reasonable and I will be there in my scratchbuilt LSA 9524R. I have been flying it for 2 1/2 years and 125 hours. I will leave SC at the crack Sunday morning and should be there Sunday evening. I will park in homebuilt camping. One other airplane will be there from my crowd is flying in They will be in a Cessna 182. I want to camp in homebuilt and they would like to camp with me. I am pretty sure that it would not be cool for a 182 to park in homebuilt. What do you all think? If any of you are race fans, Gene Fulton is coming in the 182. He is one of the premier race car engine builders. Gene has a private field at his house in SC... Fulton Field SC66. I keep my LSA at his field near Spartanburg SC. We will be in on the Bearhawk walk also.

I don't think they will let the 182 park in HBC but they will let you park with him in the GA section. I hope you don't, because a lot less people will find you! Another option may be for you to sleep at his 182, and park your plane at showplane parking. Then your plane can serve as a mid-day base of operations in a strategic spot too.

OK. I will park at homebuilt and he will park at GA. Thanks

We have arrived at C37 for the Pietenpol fly in and will stick around for a few days. That stationary front around SDF set us back a day but we had great hospitality along the way!

We are not at Oshkosh yet, but should get there tomorrow. We'll head for homebuilt camping.
