  • Lycoming Service Bulletins and AD's

Can someone school me on engine Lycoming Service Bullitens andAD's? I'm wondering how I would learn if my Bob Barrows IO-360-exp engine has any that apply.

    Here is the website.

Enter your engine make and model and it will limit them down. Then you need to just verify the serial is affected by the AD.

It might be worth a call to Bob to see what he suggests and to see what level of effort he thinks make sense. The basic problem is that an experimental engine may not be a clear "make and model' from the manufacturer's point of view. I have one of Bob's engines. If you look in the log you will see that he has probably entered something like "built from parts to 0SMOH standard...". The serial number on my engine tells me that it was originally shipped to Mooney as an IO-360-AIA. It is certainly not that now. All I know for sure is that the case is from that engine. I imagine that the crankshaft and a lot of other internal parts are also from the same engine but I don't know for sure. I know that some of the parts are definitely not from that engine (it has a carburetor now, different magnetos, probably a new cam etc.). Short of having part level serial numbers and the ability to search ADs based on them, I'm not sure how far you can get.

I spoke to Bob about the recent Lycoming AD for conrods. He told me my engine doesn't have the Lycoming conrods.

Greg is correct. Nothing you can look up will apply without conferring with Mike/Bob about exactly what was installed. Or whomever you purchased an experimental build from.

Did Bob happen to give you a stack of yellow tags with the engine, or make any entries that might specify any serial numbers for internal parts? I make up a chart for each of the accessories with their serial numbers, part numbers, etc.
